The Dwyer Employee Association organized a fundraiser this December to support the local Michiana Humane Society. From December 11 to December 22, Dwyer employees were asked to donate animal food, bedding, toys, and cleaning supplies.
The Michiana Humane Society strives to find "forever homes" for dogs, cats, rabbits, gerbils, and other small animals in La Porte County, Indiana and Berrien County, Michigan. Run solely on donations and volunteer work, the Michiana Humane Society provides a safe harbor to an average of 1,000 to 1,200 animals yearly.
Michiana Humane Society commented: "Your local support means the world to us and we are very thankful and grateful that you thought of the MHS when there are so many other organizations in need. Thank you."
A variety of supplies were gathered by employees, including: cat collars, cat toys, cat food, cat treats, cat nip, dog collars, dog toys, dog food, dog treats, raw hides, rabbit food, gerbil chews, shredded paper, blankets, brushes, towels, paper towels, dish soap, bleach, bottles, nail clippers, and office supplies. In addition to this, Dwyer's shredded paper has been marked in certain departments to be donated to the Humane Society as well.
Dwyer Employee Association President, Taylor Gussman, thanks participants for their donations to the cause: "I am incredibly thankful and delighted with the amount of contribution from our Dwyer Associates! The support and feedback I received regarding this from our colleagues and the MHS were overwhelmingly positive and it feels wonderful to give back to our community as a company. Thank you all so much again for your participation in this event and we definitely plan to have more charity-based events in 2016." This event follows volunteer work in the summer of 2015, when Dwyer interns showed their support by cleaning the grounds and helping with general maintenance and animal socialization at the humane society.
