Manufacturing Engineer / Supervisor
Development Program
PURPOSE It is the purpose of this program to select, hire and develop degreed engineers interested in pursuing careers in production operations and supervision, leading to general management.
TERM OF PROGRAM This development program is intended to be completed in not more than 24 months. The development time allotted for this program may be extended by a month or two in order to match the availability date of a regular position opening. The development time may be shortened to less than 24 months where in the discretion of the Director of Manufacturing the individual concerned has demonstrated overall technical and supervisory competence and is not expected to suffer from lack of exposure to the remaining program opportunities.
REGULAR EMPLOYMENT Individuals who successfully complete this development program will be eligible for regular employment thereafter.
PROGRAM CONTENT The work content of this program will consist of manufacturing engineering and supervisory work to be performed at corporate headquarters and in a manufacturing plant. Assignment periods of approximately six months each will include exposure to the following work:
Manufacturing Engineering
Product Engineering
Supervision / Process Improvement
Supervision / Product Improvement
These assignment periods will not necessarily occur in the above order. Specific written objectives (including acceptable results and timetables) will be provided by the company for each assignment period.
EVALUATIONS Formal performance will be made at the end of each assignment period, and will be based 50% on progress toward specific objectives and 50% on overall performance on the job. The trainee will submit an evaluation of his/her training experiences, and the program itself, at end of each assignment period.
SALARY
The company's established starting salary for graduate engineers will apply for individuals entering the program. Salary reviews will accompany formal performance evaluations at the end of each assignment period, and will be based on job performance.
RELOCATION
Due to the nature of this program, participants must be open to relocation, perhaps as frequently as six months. For each move the employee will be eligible for relocation assistance as provided in the company's formal Relocation Policy.
RESPONSIBILITY It is the responsibility of the Director of Manufacturing to ensure that this program operates according to this description, including that assignment changes and transfers occur according to schedule, and that the manager supervising the individual being developed is informed with respect to the objectives and detailed material the individual should be focused on during their current assignment. It is the responsibility of the designated manager to see that the individual being developed has adequate exposure to and guidance on the training assignments scheduled for the current period. The designated manager will also be responsible for maintaining documentation on the individual's progress and performance during training, for preparing and communicating to the individual concerned regular performance evaluations regarding his/her progress, and for making recommendations at the conclusion of the assignment for future training and/or regular employment.
